What
is Lead? |
While lead can
be found in many materials, from solder to soil,
it is lead-based paint that accounts for most of
the lead exposure in children.
Lead, one of the
ancient metals, is most commonly found in
materials installed from the 1950s through the
1970s. Many old paints have as high as a
20-40% lead content.

What are the Dangers of
Lead? |
Even tiny
amounts of lead can be dangerous to a person's
health. Ingestion or inhalation of lead
dust is the most common form of lead exposure.
Lead is readily absorbed into the
bloodstream where it becomes a cumulative
poison, so nervous system damage, organ damage,
developmental delays and reproductive problems
can develop.
Allowing building
occupants to be exposed to weathered lead-based
paint or conducting renovation / demolition that
disturbs lead can cause exposures to occupants
and create liability issues for building owners
and landlords.
