What
is Industrial Hygiene? |
Industrial
Hygiene (IH) is a term that has been adopted to
classify multiple hazards that can effect worker
health. Industrial Hygiene, according to
OSHA, is the science of anticipating,
recognizing, evaluating and controlling
workplace conditions that may cause worker
injury or illness.
Industrial Hygiene
services should include environmental monitoring
and worker exposure monitoring to determine
worker exposure to numerous contaminants
including silica, lead, VOCs , carcinogens and
many others. These contaminants can come
in many forms, such as dust, fumes, vapors
mists, aerosols and fibers.

Why Focus on
Industrial Hygiene? |
Under the OSHA
Act, mandatory safety and health requirements
are set that Industrial Hygiene services are
designed to address. OSHA requires that
employers determine the extent of employee
exposure and determine how to best control those
hazards. Utilizing Industrial Hygiene
services to identify those hazards is essential
because failure to identify or control the
hazards can lead to costly OSHA citations, loss
of productivity or worker injury.
