What
is Hearing Conservation? |
Noise (unwanted
sound) is caused by pressure changes in a medium
(air), usually by vibration or turbulence.
Those pressure changes produce waves that
produce sound, or noise. Exposure to high
levels of noise can cause hearing loss.
The intensity and duration of exposure to the
noise have a great effect on the degree of the
damage, from slight to permanent.

What Noise
Prevention Steps Must I Take? |
Employers are
required to evaluate the workplace for noise
levels that accurately identify employee
exposure. If noise levels exceed OSHA's
action levels, an employer must institute a
hearing conservation program. This written
program should include noise level testing
audiograms, training and hearing protectors as
necessary.

How Can EMC Help? |
Environmental
Management Consulting, Inc. (EMC) has developed
proven solutions for addressing your
organization's noise related concerns.
EMC can survey your
facility for areas or operations with the
potential to exceed OSHA action levels with
regard to noise. If identified, further
testing or dosomitry testing can be performed to
accurately determine exposure. A
comprehensive hearing conservation program can
then be developed to monitor workplace
conditions and employees to ensure compliance
with OSHA regulations.
